Five For Free #67

Princeton - Andre

The Los Angeles band Princeton have recently released their second album 'Remembrance Of Things To Come' in the US. No confirmed UK release info is available yet but the ease of buying imports and downloads means it hardly makes a difference. For a free sample check out latest single 'Andre' which is slightly orchestral alt-pop that steadily builds to a string-heavy ending that's subtle rather than overblown.

NO - Another Life

Another LA band, NO, have been picking up a fair bit of hype of late following the release of their debut EP late last year and a triumphant performance at SXSW. There's nothing particularly original about their indie-rock sound, but they have some superb tunes which will do more than enough to lift them beyond being tagged as The National copyists.

Stars In Coma - Dismantle Your Heart

Sweden's Stars In Coma have been going from strength to strength this year, with their eclectic mix of experimental indiepop snowballing media attention at home and in America. Ahead of the release of album 'Midnight Puzzle' later this month, they're offering up another free tune; the energetic but bittersweet track 'Dismantle Your Heart' which incorporates a menagerie of sounds.

Weird Dreams - 666.66

London duo Weird Dreams cite The Beach Boys as a key influence and their harmonious psych-pop does owe a debt to Brian and co., but their new album 'Choreography' is certainly no 60s throwback. On '666.66' they take elements of dreampop and shoegaze to weave through their psychedelic symphony and they also channel the past couple of decades of British guitar music. It all adds up to a great record.

Nonagon - Fresnel Lens

Chicago hardcore band Nonagon have been gigging heavily for several years, but by their own admission actual recorded output has been sparse. This February they self-released a five track EP 'People Live Everywhere' which was recorded in three days on entirely analogue equipment. The record captures the raw power and energy the band possess. To get you in the mood, here's a free track - 'Fresnel Lens'.
